It runs from the west part of the Fontanka to the Moika near Summer Garden. The street is a major commercial street, mostly around the Hay Square and the crossing with Nevsky Prospekt. The street is home to many markets, like Merchant Yard, Apraksin Yard, and the Hay Market.The street was built ca. 1710, and run from Nevsky Prospekt to the Gorokhovaya Street. The street was filled with wealthy estates, with large gardens, from where the street got its name.
